Basic Information - This Fish is Native to Mexico, Belize, & Guatemala. Their Natural habitat includes Fast to moderate flowing rivers & Lagoons. This fish can grow up yo 6 inches & live for 10 year's. They are Omnivores, however in their natural habitat they eat small aquatic animals & fish as well. Salvini Cichlids are somewhat semi-aggressive & the aggression multiplies during spawning. Its best to keep them separately once they start breeding.
Common Names : Salvin's Cichlid, Tri-colored Cichlid, Yellow bellied Cichlid
Male - Bigger in size & less colorful
Female- Smaller in size & more colorful with markings on Gill area & fins.
Aquarium Care Guide for Salvins Cichlid -
- Tank size should be 50 gallon or bigger, 100 gallon for mixed cichlid tank
- Temperature range is 72–79 °F (22.2–26.1 °C )
- pH range is between 6.5 to 8
- Water Hardness range is 8 to 15 dGH
- Filtration like any Cichlid even Salvini Cichlid needs good filtration with higher out-flow & moderate to fast water movement
- Readily available food like pellets, flakes, freeze dried worms, live & froozen food like Daphnia, Blood worms can be fed twice a day
- Tank Mates can be other Salvini Cichlids , Severum, Jewlefish, Jack Dempsey etc. Aggression has to be Monitored in case of a Cichlid community tank. Tank size & Decor plays an important factor. Salvini Cichlid's are predatory fish & territorial.

Lots of hiding places are required with lots of plants rocks & drift wood in the Tank. The Fish in this video are Juveniles and already territorial. I had to create lots of hiding spots to control aggression & may have to move to a bigger tank sooner than I thought.
